Growing up on an Iowa farm, Melissa learned early that life rarely goes according to plan. After her parents divorced when she was five, she moved nearly ten times before high school—new cities, new schools, new names to learn over and over. Most kids would find that destabilizing. Melissa learned to adapt fast—and pack light.
After earning her BA in business administration, Melissa found her way into financial services through Chicago temp agencies. A commodities firm hired her as a secretary. After some rocky corporate restructuring, she moved to Milwaukee without a job and landed at Baird in October 2001—right after September 11th, during a hiring freeze. A college connection opened the door; her reputation kept opening more.
Twenty-three years later, she's the person other Baird teams call when they need to know "how things actually get done."
